Audio Story Draft

For my audio story I decided to focus on my journey into fitness and into aerial dance. I told an abbreviated version of how the whole journey began. My website is designed around the idea of unique styles of fitness, so I thought it would be appropriate to focus on how I found an interest in unique style and what its effect has been on my life.\

My research focused on finding the right kind of music to play while I was talking during my story, and I found the one I wanted to use off of freesound.org, which is licensed under the creative commons 0 license. The free sound I found was the emotional piano bu tictac9. Link found below:

My technical process was to record myself saying my story. There were initially a couple of ‘um’s and ‘uh’s in the recording and a couple pauses were I wasn’t sure how to phrase what I was saying. I placed the audio track into audition and started with the cut tool. I shorted the silence at the beginning and end of the recording. I then cut out any awkward pauses and all of my ums and uhs. After I removed a small section of the recording because I no longer felt it was relevant by time I had started editing the recording. I then used the select tool to drag all of the clipped pieces together and see if they would fit. I had to re-cut a couple portions after that because it didn’t line up perfectly.

After I was finished with my voice recording, I found a song to pair it with from freesound.org and placed it in audition. I muted my voice recording and started with the cut tool. I removed the beginning and end of the sound a little, and then I tried to removed the middle of the track because it created a lull where my story didn’t have one. I removed it, but then had to add back in section because my clip wasn’t long enough, so I made a duplicate of the rhythm by cutting and lengthening the sound track pieces until it all fit together to be long enough from my voice recording. I adjusted the sound volume down as well with the sound clip because it was overpowering my voice.

  1. I loved your use of personal narration throughout the audio story. The anecdote you use to introduce your course topic is a great appeal to the audience. You can really feel the emotion in your voice and how you explain this fitness journey you’ve embarked on. The course topic feels personal for the audience and that’s great for your audio story. The piano music goes really well with the narration, although I feel that the music should be more uplifting at the end of the narration because the song has an overtly sad tone throughout the story. There is also nearly five seconds of dead noise at the beginning of the story that needs to be eliminated, as well as various pauses in your narration. The closing music is too long and drawn out, so you should think about trimming down the music at end. Overall, I really enjoyed your audio story.

  2. I think that your story was great! It tells a great story, and you can hear in your voice how much fitness and pole dancing means to you. I think that your audio was clear and focused, and you didn’t have any real dead air time. I also really enjoyed the underlying tone you had, I think it played well to your topic. One suggestion I have is to lower the volume of your sound even more to ensure that your story is the vocal point of the story. Another suggestion is to trim down the introduction and fade-out of your story to make sure that you stay within that 1-2-minute requirement. Other than that, I think that you have a great story to tell, and you’ll be more than ready for the final submission on Friday.

  3. I like that your audio clip has a more conversational tone and less of a professional announcement style tone. It makes it feel more personal and relatable, almost like you are speaking to the audience in a way that connects you to them. Also, what you are saying is very personal and I can tell you are truly passionate about the art of dancing and pole dancing. The background music seems to have the appropriate tone in the sense that it is relaxing and almost inspiring. It reminds me of the music they use in inspirational commercials, but it also almost has a sense of longing. Because of this, I originally thought it maybe sounded a little bit sad on its own, but your voice over helps to make it sound more positive and hopeful. I think that music was a great choice if those were the moods you were going for. My advice would be to be remove some of the “Uhms” and “Uhs” you have in there. Having those all removed would make the clip more seamless and similar to a commercial. Also, it sounds like the volume of the music increases at the end, but the volume of your voice does not. The music is a little distracting especially at the end. I would increase the volume of your voice throughout the whole clip and decrease the volume of the music throughout the whole clip. Overall, I think your draft is beautiful and that you are working with a very good audio clip.
