Logo Draft

Draft-LogoFor this project, I decided to create a Logo of using my stiletto pole heels. My course topic is unique styles of fitness. I pole dance, but I also teach pole dancing for UREC, and part of pole dancing can include different styles of shoes, such as sneakers, cowboy boots, stilettos, and ballet point shoes. I typically dance either barefoot or in stilettos. Past that, FitFlow is the name I chose for my website, so I felt it should be included in the logo.

My influences for my design were actually pole clothing brands. I was looking for pole clothing, and notices the logo for Dragonfly pole wear is a dragonfly, the logo for Bad Kitty is the outline of a cat, and the logo for Cleo the Hurricane is a lightning bolt. All of those brands contributes to my idea, which helped to create my idea. The significance of each element in my design was the stiletto which represented pole dancing, another unique kind of fitness, FitFlow is the name of my website, and the outside circle encapsulated the rest of the design.

I took a picture of my heel and uploaded it to my computer, then I sent it to my email so that I could download it for my logo. From there I placed the image in Illustrator, and used to pen tool to outline the stiletto and then cut out the little individual pieces in the strap on the shoe. After I adjusted the lines a little using the point selector tool to make sure the lines followed the shoe properly. Then I used the shape builder tool to remove the pieces near the strap that weren’t part of the shoe. I then created to colors in the swatch section and used them with the gradient tool to create the coloring of the shoe.

For the circle on the outside, I placed down two circles. One I filled with white and the other with black. I sized the black circle to be larger than the white circle, and then placed the white circle on top of the black circle by going to Object- Arrange- Send to Front. After they were on top of each other, I went back to the black circle and used the same colors I had chosen for the shoe to tie the two pieces there.

For the font, I used an Edwardian font style that was already preexisting on Illustrator to type FitFlow. I resized the text to be 72 pt font, and placed in inside the circle. I highlighted the text and created another color with the swatch maker to find a color I felt would pop more than black.

I encountered very few technical challenges while creating my logo. I had a little trouble remembering which tools did what, so I ended up re-watching parts of the Illustrator tutorial videos for help. My largest technical difficulty was that the Adobe Illustrator 2018 doesn’t already have the tools lined up on the side of the screen like it did in the videos. I was able to find all of the tools in under Window at the top of the screen and then drag them into the side bar as needed.

  1. Wow! I think you did an absolutely incredible job on this! I love the simplicity of the logo but it shows me exactly what you are talking about at the same time. I like that the heel is in the middle of the circle so it really emphasizes it. The text under it was definitely needed to know that this is representing a workout class and not a shoe brand or something. I really like the color choice because the blue really pops but I do think the dark blue could be lightened up just a little because it looks pretty close to black. I love the gradient color choice. It makes the heel become more alive. Overall I think you did a fantastic job!

  2. I really like your design of the high heeled shoe in the middle. It makes it clear what your topic is and gives a great visual in the center of the design. I also really the font used for the “Fit Flow” it fits perfectly with the style of the design and also has great positioning right below the main design. The blue color used is also really good because it makes the images and designs stand out. The gradient is a nice addition but is hard to see, maybe using the gradient a little more to give the design a little more depth. Your topic is also very interesting, and you seem to be very passionate when describing it! Overall, I really like this design and the ideas behind it, there isn’t a lot I would change!

  3. I love how it turned out from the original sketch! I really think that the colors that you chose compliment each other and It pulls the logo together. I thought it was really creative how you created the heel logo by uploading a picture of your heel and creating a template with a pen tool. If I could give you a critical suggestion, I would suggest making the font one easier to read. I love the color and the placement but I would suggest making it not so cursive so it pops out more clearly. Another suggestion is maybe making the title something to do with your fitness class. I believe one strong aspect of your logo would have to be the gradient at the heel of the heel and around the logo. Overall, a fantastic job!

  4. Based on the comments I read, I believe I should make some adjustment to the gradient. It seemed as though changing where the gradient shifts from light to dark was preferable, as well as lightening up the darker blue. I originally styles it off of actually pole heels where the ombre effect was extremely similar to what I created in the logo, but my peers view it differently so I’ll make the change. Those are changes I am willing to make, but one of the comments from my peer I plan to ignore. She recommended changing my font type, and although I can understand why she said it, my website it called fitflow, and I can’t imaging having a title with the word flow that doesn’t have text that flows as well. It wouldn’t seem like the correct choice creatively to change it. Her second suggestion was to change what my text says to something related to the fitness classes I teach, but again my website is called fitflow, so I have decided to stick with what I had. I appreciate all of the feed back I received. I will make the changes to the gradient that I think will be most beneficial to the logo.
